Diplomas in Spanish (DELE)

 

The Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera, DELE) are official, internationally recognized qualifications that certify the examinee’s command of Spanish. The DELE are awarded by the Cervantes Institute, in representation of Spain’s Ministry of Education.

  • The Diploma in Spanish Level A1 certifies that the candidate is able to understand and use common everyday expressions aimed at satisfying immediate needs.
  • The Diploma in Spanish Level A2 certifies that the candidate is able to understand and use common everyday expressions related to important areas (basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, occupations, and so on).
  • The Diploma in Spanish Level B1 (Initial) certifies that the candidate is able to understand and respond appropriately in most normal day-to-day situations and to express his/her desires and needs.
  • The Diploma in Spanish Level B2 (Intermediate) certifies that the candidate is able to deal successfully with day-to-day situations in normal communicative circumstances that do not require specialized use of the language.
  • The Diploma in Spanish Level C1 certifies that the candidate is able to express him/herself clearly without limitations, and has a good command of a wide lexical repertoire, including idiomatic and colloquial expressions.
  • The Diploma in Spanish Level C2 (Superior) certifies that the candidate is able to deal successfully with situations that require an advanced knowledge of the language and an awareness of the cultural customs embedded within it.

The DELE examinations are programmed in May, August and November.
